It involves general surgeons not only performing surgical procedures for a wide range of common diseases but also being responsible for patient care before, during and after the surgery. All surgeons start their training in general surgery then go on to focusing on another speciality in surgery.
General surgery treats the following conditions:
- Gallbladder Disease – this refers to problems that occur in the gallbladder, such as gallstones and mild inflammation.
- Cholecystectomy – this is a surgical procedure that is performed to treat gallstones by removing the gallbladder.

- Appendectomy – this is a surgical procedure where they remove the appendix. The appendix is a small pouch that is connected to the large intestine. An appendectomy is a procedure done to treat appendicitis, an infection or inflammation of the appendix.
- Hernia Repair – this is a surgical correction of a hernia that involves the surgeon putting back the protruding organ in its rightful place, then stitch back the hole or weak area of the muscle or tissue.
